Gas Works Park

Description

A former coal gasification plant on Lake Union, decommissioned in 1956 and turned into one of the country’s first post-industrial parks. A designated Seattle landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places. The city is currently removing the towers’ ladders and catwalks over the objections of preservation advocates — bypassing the Landmarks Preservation Board to do it. The towers stay. This is how the whole thing looked.
